Agreed, except that there are some good exchanges. IMS and BizX have a good reputation and make great attempts to be ethical and have a valuable currency. I'm actually a big fan of the barter industry, and would recommend it to anyone. Except that your experience will always depend on your broker. If you have a good broker, you'll generally have a good experience. If not, you simply won't.

Why anybody would want to be a part of or do business with any of these trade exchanges befuddles me. I have worked in the industry and been a client and can attest to the borderline criminal activity that goes along with trade exchanges. Whether it is Tradia, ITEX, Florida Barter, BizXchange, IMS, or any of the others, the goal is to make money by exploiting members period. They use up the resources of one member to make other members happy and then have to do it over and over to sustain themselves. If you really want an edge in sales and marketing, do what you say you are going to do, provide good service to your customers, and pay your bills. Simple as that.

Frankly, I'm surprised anyone would be stupid enough to start doing business with them, except for one thing: Matthew Humphreys. He talks a good game, he has a decent look for an older guy, and is smooth like snake oil. Of course they don't actually disclose any real details about their business, and most of the figures in the franchise disclosure are made up. The worst part about that is that the company you used to do business is going to get screwed, one way or another. They are either going to lose money, get sued, both, or worse be stuck working for them for the next decade.

A tradia salesman riped my company off of 1000 dollars signing me up into their tradia network. He used my services and then left tradia with out paying me in tradia dollars or real money. I tried to use the tradia dollars with other vendors/members but noone would trade or even to come out to trade. Tradia network is scam, good luck if you use them. if you don't use them, don't start.

I was just approached by a former barter company that I was a member of and now they are working with Tradia and my first response was heck no because of an experience we had several years ago. Just interested in what you have to say
